Our ultimate goal is to capture 1% of the global emissions causing climate change and prevent them from getting into the atmosphere. To do this, we’re tackling the highest-polluting sectors, starting with the shipping industry.
The oceanic shipping industry is one of the world’s most significant contributors of pollutants, contributing 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions. If left unmitigated, that 3% could reach 10% by 2050.
Vessels docked at ports are among the most substantial sources of pollution, which affects local ecosystems and the health of communities. Our technology attaches to the ducts of at-berth vessels to capture up to 99% of all pollutants, purifying them into a harmless gas.
STAX is the only emissions capture and control solution approved by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to service both container ships and auto-carriers (ro-ros). Our service is now available at multiple California ports.

Launched officially in 2024, STAX was co-founded by Bob Sharp (CTO), Mike Walker (CEO) and Edward Norton (Chief Strategy Officer).
A veteran engineer and inventor, Sharp designed all components of the patented STAX emission capture and control systems. He teamed up with Walker and Norton to operationalize and finance a company capable of achieving scale and enabling the shipping industry to achieve regulatory compliance across all California ports.
At its inception, STAX was the sole recipient of the California Air Resource Board (CARB)’s technology accelerator grant for mobile, at-berth emission capture and control.
