STAX is transforming maritime emissions control with patented technology that captures pollutants now and CO2 emissions next, safeguarding community health and preserving the environment for future generations.
Our filters eliminate harmful maritime emissions, including NOx, PM10, PM2.5, diesel particulate matter (DPM), and reactive organic gases (ROG), meeting California’s stringent regulatory standards.
By 2025, STAX aims to treat over 1,000 tons of shipping emissions annually.
Our technology has undergone rigorous third-party testing to receive a CARB Executive Order, which certifies that system is compliant with California’s At-Berth Regulations.

With no retrotfits necessary, STAX serves vessels of any configuration docking at California ports. Our CARB-approved technology caters to all major vessel types, including container ships, ro-ros (auto carriers), and soon, tankers, removing 99% of particulate matter and 95% of nitrogen oxide.
In the future, STAX will expand to remove CO2 and service additional industries.
BARGE SPECS AT A GLANCE
Step 1: The STAX XCAP exhaust capture system, with a placement arm spanning over 250 feet, is equipped with two ducts that attach directly to a ship’s exhaust pipes.
Step 2: The arm captures exhaust from both pipes simultaneously, channeling emissions into two independent STAXbox purification systems.
Step 3: STAXBox uses proprietary technology to convert harmful air pollutants such as nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulfur oxides (SOx), particulate matter, diesel particulate matter (DPM), and reactive organic gases (ROG) into a harmless gas mixture of CO2 and water vapor.
Barge-based or land-deployed, the STAX arm has the industry’s longest and most flexible reach, attaching to any vessel configuration.
Our system removes nearly 100% of particulates and harmful gases, equivalent to taking 27,000 cars off the road with a single unit connected to a ship at berth.
Retrofitting a vessel for shore power can cost over $1 million. The STAX exhaust capture system fits all ships without expensive modifications.
STAX is the only emission control system approved by CARB for container and auto carriers (ro-ro) vessels and is working towards approval for tanker ships. CARB Executive Orders >
